Start of an Odyssey

· Daniel Yoo

I’m quiet-launching a personal mapping app called Odyssey today.

Odyssey helps you remember where you’ve been by letting you check-in to places, keep automatic maps of where you’ve been throughout the day, and attach photos and notes to places on the map.

Odyssey is built for privacy. Your location data is processed and stored on your device. It uses Apple’s privacy-focused MapKit to get information about places.

Why did I make it?

  • Google Maps didn’t let you attach people, notes, or photos to your timeline.
  • Apple Maps forces you to share your photos publicly.
  • Corner is the best mapping app out there rn, but everything you put in there is public.
  • All of the above prioritize place discovery over personal history.

Odyssey is different. It’s your places, your photos, your people–private and personal. Log whatever you want, however you want. Then look back at the real, unfiltered story of where you’ve been.

I’m really excited to build Odyssey out in 2025. Lots more to come!
